Who decides what goes in the pay bag, and who hands it over?

At the reporting counter, Hachiware is handed pay in a bag. Chiikawa, who was working in the next area over, is holding a similar bag.

Chiikawa, who fell into a sand pit, also receives a bag of pay after exterminating a horned creature, and is relieved.

They work in different places, but where they get paid is gathered at the counter. Rather than being hired by someone and getting a monthly salary, it looks like a setup where you're paid each time you finish a job.

The Armor-san at the counter says dangerous weeds that shouldn't have been there were mixed in, says the pay will be raised this time, and sets down a big bag.

Hachiware didn't ask for a raise. The counter side decides the amount after looking at what the job involved. Find something dangerous, and the pay goes up right there. From the workers' side, it's a welcome system.

Still, how the size of the raise is decided isn't shown. Who makes the rules, or is it the counter's own call? That remains unclear for now.

Hachiware says the qualification raised the pay a little. On another day, Chiikawa, receiving a bag for weeding after getting Grade 5, seems to feel the weight of it even though the increase is small.

The increase isn't big, yet both of them look happy. Studying and passing the exam comes back to their hands as the weight of the bag. I think that feeling is what matters.

Same job, but the amount changes depending on whether you're qualified. It can also be read as rules coming first, with pay following them. This counter seems to sit at the very center of how work works in this world.
