Was it hard to save up the money to buy a house? When Hachiware asks this, Chiikawa shows a winning notice from a yogurt sweepstakes.
I thought it was a story about saving, but it turned out to be about a winning ticket. When we see a nice house, we tend to assume someone worked hard to get it, but this house came about another way.
Luck also plays a part in life
Even when people own the same thing, how they got it differs. Some buy it themselves, some are given it. You can't see the path just from the things someone has.
Looking at the size of a house doesn't tell you how hard someone worked.
What remains in the end is a happy face
Near the end, Chiikawa is smiling, holding a key.
This scene doesn't tell us how the drawing works. But the face holding the key looks happy. Luck making a difference in how people live does bother me, but I want to accept this joy just as it is.
