What changes when Chiikawa passes the weeding exam?

Before the exam books appear, Chiikawa takes a weeding ticket at the counter and goes to work. Nobody asks to see proof of Level 5 in that scene.

Chiikawa was already weeding before earning Level 5. If the qualification were a permit to start work, that earlier scene would be hard to explain. What we can confirm here is a small increase in pay after passing.

The Used Bookstore has books about weeding and monster-hunting qualifications. A sign on the box says a qualification raises your pay. It gives no amount or rate of increase.

The Used Bookstore says pay will increase, but it does not say the shop sets the amount. Before buying the book, all we know is that passing will bring more pay.

Hachiware picks up a book for Level 5 of the weeding exam and flips through it. The amount to learn surprises Hachiware. In another scene, Chiikawa sits at a desk with a Level 5 book open.

The box selling the qualification books stresses higher pay. When Hachiware turns the pages, the amount to learn becomes clear. Chiikawa studies too, but the manga does not show how many days that took.

While studying, Chiikawa imagines a passing certificate and pay. The thought also includes a gift for a friend. This is how Chiikawa imagines spending money not yet earned.

The Used Bookstore promotes the extra pay. In Chiikawa's imagination, that money becomes a gift for a friend. Explaining the wish to pass only in terms of money would leave out this scene.

Another scene shows weeding after Chiikawa earns Level 5. Chiikawa and Hachiware receive bags of pay and feel their weight, even though the increase is small. Hachiware also says a qualification raised Hachiware's pay a little.

As the Used Bookstore promised, the pay increased a little. Yet no exact amount is shown. The joy of a heavier bag does not tell us how much easier daily life became.

At the reporting counter, an Armor-san says the pay will be raised this time because dangerous weeds were mixed into the job. The increase for a qualification also shows up in a bag from the same counter.

Chiikawa studies and takes the exam. But we see no scene in which Chiikawa sets the extra pay. An Armor-san announces a raise for a different job at the counter; we do not know whether that Armor-san made the pay rules.

These scenes do not tell us the extra amount a qualification brings, who makes the exam rules, or how many days Chiikawa studied. They do not say that weeding without a qualification is forbidden. We cannot conclude that qualifications govern every job in this world.
